The abominable attack on Garissa University College in northeastern Kenya yesterday requires a measured response by Kenyan security forces to bring to justice those responsible and prevent further attacks. At least 147 have been confirmed dead and 80 injured in the attack on April 2.
Bahraini authorities have arrested prominent human rights activist Nabeel Rajab over his allegations on social media of torture in a Bahraini prison. Authorities should release him immediately and drop all charges that violate his right to free expression.
Malaysian authorities have charged prominent cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, known as Zunar, over tweets he sent about the jailing of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. He faces nine charges of sedition, one for each tweet he posted.
A court in Saint Petersburg will hear a case against Deti 404, an online support group for LGBT children for allegedly violating Russia’s anti-LGBT “propaganda law”. If the court rules against Deti 404, the group’s website could eventually be banned in Russia.
At least 11,000 Afghan refugees will be expelled from Azad Jammu and Kashmir which is an administrative territory of Pakistan. According to reports the Afghan refugees will be expelled under a national anti-terror plan announced in the wake of the country’s worst ever militant attack.
