Corrections to our publications

Human Rights Watch strives to maintain the highest level of accuracy in our reporting. This includes a commitment to correcting errors or clarifying facts that appear in our publications in a timely fashion. Corrections appear both on this dedicated webpage and at the bottom of the publication that contained the error.

We cannot reply individually to all corrections requests, but all such requests that specify the exact nature of the alleged inaccuracy and the publication (title, page number / web address and date) in which it appeared will be reviewed. If you believe you have found an inaccuracy in our materials, please contact us.

Errors contained in social media posts under Human Rights Watch and staff accounts will also be corrected in a prompt and transparent manner.

Recent Corrections

  • An earlier version of this dispatch incorrectly quoted US President Donald Trump as saying life in North Korea was “hell on earth” during a visit to Seoul. Rather, Trump was reported to say that life in North Korea was “a hell that no person deserves.”

  • An earlier version of this news release misspelled the last names of Mohamed and Abdessamad Hachbai and the last name of Najat Mahjoubi. 

  • An earlier version of this news release misstated Shady al-Ghazaly Harb's occupation. He is a doctor.

  • On May 30 Human Rights Watch posted a story commenting on the then-apparent killing on May 29 in Kyiv of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko. Later on May 30 we removed the story from our website when it was confirmed by authorities in Ukraine that security services had, with Mr Babchenko’s consent, staged the alleged-killing, and that Mr Babchenko is alive and had not been attacked in any way.

  • Local state media outlets identified the long-time rights advocates Loujain al-Hathloul, Aziza al-Yousef, and Eman al-Nafjan, along with Mohammad al-Rabea, an activist, and Ibrahim al-Modaimeegh, a human rights lawyer, among those arrested. An earlier version of this news release incorrectly identified the source of this information.

  • This dispatch was last updated on May 21, 2018. 

  • An earlier version of this news release incorrectly added the word “peaceful” in describing protests that Iranian authorities violently repressed.

  • This dispatch was last updated on May 11, 2018. 

  • An earlier version of this dispatch misstated the name of a government agency. The dispatch has been changed to reflect this.
