Corrections to our publications

Human Rights Watch strives to maintain the highest level of accuracy in our reporting. This includes a commitment to correcting errors or clarifying facts that appear in our publications in a timely fashion. Corrections appear both on this dedicated webpage and at the bottom of the publication that contained the error.

We cannot reply individually to all corrections requests, but all such requests that specify the exact nature of the alleged inaccuracy and the publication (title, page number / web address and date) in which it appeared will be reviewed. If you believe you have found an inaccuracy in our materials, please contact us.

Errors contained in social media posts under Human Rights Watch and staff accounts will also be corrected in a prompt and transparent manner.

Recent Corrections

  • An earlier version of this news release misstated the charges filed against Nuth Pich. The court charged Pich with discrediting judicial decisions (article 523 of Cambodia’s penal code), incitement to commit felony decisions (article 494), and incitement to discriminate (article 495). 

  • The updated version of this presser clarifies that Khaled Hassan’s trial began in February 2019 and that he is still being held in detention.

  • A previous version of this news release incorrectly stated that the joint labor committees are yet to be rolled out, when, in fact, they were in June 2019.

  • An earlier version of this release incorrectly referenced the May 2008 Sichuan earthquake date as 2018. This version has been updated to reflect the correct year. 

  • This news release has been modified to reflect the correct year that the mandate of Special Criminal Court (SCC) begins, which is 2003.

  • July 24, 2019

    This press release has been modified to reflect that Samba Thiam was arrested on June 25, 2019, and not July 25.

     

  • The updated version of this news release corrects the date Abdelhadi al-Fadhli and Alaa al-Saadoun were released, where Abdulhakim al-Fadhli is being held, and the number and list of activists arrested.

  • The July 16, 2019 news release, “Support Needed to Tackle ICC Shortcomings,” has been updated to clarify that the written reasons for the Gbagbo oral decision were filed on July 16.

  • The July 3, 2019 report, "Sri Lanka: Muslims Face Threats, Attacks," has been corrected to rectify that the police conceded that there was no evidence against Dr. Shihabdeen Shafi in a court in Kurunegala, not in Colombo.

  • The July 2, 2019 news release, "EU: Press Nicaragua Over Protest Crackdown" has been corrected to delete the amount of European Union-provided funding indicated in the approved 2018 budget for Nicaragua’s National Police. The earlier version relied on information contained in a congressional amendment to the budget.
