On July 30, in an historic and long-awaited vote, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 12
to 7 to send the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)
to the full Senate for consideration. This important step toward U.S. ratification of the treaty came after
years of advocacy by a coalition of activists including HRW.
