New York City is home to an overwhelming majority of the state's returning prisoners. Instead of shunning those trying to rebuild their lives, and thinking that the center would rob local children "of their innocence," as one block association president put it, neighbors ought to appreciate the lessons their children could learn from a society that treats its former prisoners with respect and human dignity.
