(New York) - US President Donald Trump issued a proclamation on June 4, 2025, banning nationals of 12 countries from entering the US. They are Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The proclamation also partially banned nationals from seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

The following statement can be attributed to Tanya Greene, US program director at Human Rights Watch.

"The travel ban announced by the US administration yesterday will harm immigrant families intending reunification, students, workers and many others. The rationale appears to be arbitrary, spurious, inconsistent, and, as with the “Muslim ban” under the first Trump administration, race-oriented. This is another illustration of immigration policy meant to cause chaos and uncertainty. Congress should speak out against this policy, and work toward an immigration process that is fair, rights-respecting, and protects the dignity of immigrants, their loved ones, and their communities."
