Lucy McKernan

Lucy McKernan is the Deputy Director for United Nations at Human Rights Watch’s office in Geneva, responsible for advocacy work at the Human Rights Council and other UN human rights mechanisms. Lucy was previously the Geneva Representative for the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, where she established and led the Geneva office and conducted advocacy on economic, social and cultural rights and the rights of persons living in poverty at the United Nations human rights mechanisms in Geneva. She is a qualified lawyer who practised in Australia and was the Director of Legal Services at Justice Connect, where she undertook national law reform advocacy on homelessness and access to justice and was responsible for pro bono legal clinics providing legal advice and representation to persons experiencing homelessness and to older persons. Lucy holds a master’s degree in international politics from Melbourne University and a law degree and arts degree from Monash University (Australia).
