Thank you Madam President for giving us the floor a second time for a short statement.
We want to express our appreciation for the cascade of interventions we have just heard on Ukraine. It was an extraordinary chorus of voices speaking as one.
That chorus of voices demonstrated clear recognition that Ukraine is indeed in violation of the Convention for missing its Article 5 clearance deadline without having submitted an extension request.
That chorus of voices clearly expressed grave concern about Ukraine being in violation of the Convention.
There was a clear call on Ukraine to submit an extension request as soon as possible, and to indicate today its intention to do so.
As many noted, this affects not just Ukraine, but it is a challenge to the integrity and credibility of the Convention. It is a challenge that must be overcome now.
In that regard, we were extremely disappointed in Ukraine’s response, as it did not express a clear commitment to submit an extension request at any point in time.
We call on Ukraine to, at the very least, indicate its intention to submit an extension request as soon as possible.
