Two academics detained by Beijing, Dr. Li Shaomin and Dr. Gao Zhan, have left China and been reunited with their families. Human Rights Watch welcomes the release of these scholars, but denounced the numerous violations of Chinese and international standards of due process in the handling of their cases. HRW staff analyzed the scholars' detention on CNN and in the New York Times and have testified on the subject before the U.S. House Committee on International Relations.
