US President Donald Trump’s expressed disdain for the media is so severe that press freedom groups created the US Press Freedom Tracker to monitor legal and physical threats facing journalists there. 

In the Middle East, journalists are jailed, and in Iran the messaging platform Telegram is under attack. 

Seventy-three journalists are behind bars in Turkey, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. 

Earlier this week, nine journalists died in Afghanistan when a bomber posing as a journalist blew himself up in a crowd of people that arrived shortly after another suicide attack.
