The American Health Care Act, if enacted, would be a devastating setback for access to health care for those who can least afford it.

The attacks on Medicaid alone – cuts in funding, turning it over to the states, and ending expansion – will harm millions of low-income and older people and those living with disabilities by reducing coverage and quality of care.

Eliminating Medicaid reimbursement for Planned Parenthood will hurt millions of women who depend on Planned Parenthood for a range of health services, from cancer screenings to services after sexual assault.

Weakening protection for pre-existing conditions will place the health, well-being, and the lives of millions of the most vulnerable Americans at risk.

Doing away with requirements that both private insurers and Medicaid cover – essential benefits such as mental health care (including drug treatment) and preventive services – will harm individuals, families, and communities.

Make no mistake: lives will be lost, and we call upon the Senate to reject this legislation as an unacceptable attack on the right to health care and services for all, particularly those who need it most.
