Aleppo fell. As ceasefires came and went Human Rights Watch received worrying reports about possible reprisals against civilians. The week saw forces battling for control over Aleppo plunge its civilian residents into hell. Some evacuations have finally taken place but thousands of civilians remain behind under a complete communications blackout.

Also this week, a new HRW report documents the breadth and scale of the media crackdown in Turkey; Boko Haram murders two girls, younger than 10, forcing them to be suicide bombers in Nigeria; the conflict in Yemen is devastating the children there; and Burma’s military burned Rohingya villages, then denied it.
