Egypt: Human Rights Watch is investigating the circumstances of the killing of more than 40 people outside the Republican Guard Club in eastern Cairo on July 8. To ensure accountability, it is essential that there should be an immediate, impartial, credible and independent investigation into this shocking incident.
HRW is visiting local hospitals... A political "road map" is in the works but how inclusive will it be... Egypt director, Heba Morayef, appeared live on the Huffington Post and discussed the need for accountability for the police force... HRW will continue to follow this story from the ground in the coming hours and days... Elsewhere, on the eve of the second year of independence for South Sudan, HRW joined forces with seven other groups calling for an end to the death penalty there... At a global level, access to contraceptives, and more importantly the power for women to use them, are critical to women's rights... Finally, it's encouraging to see that more than 700,000 people want to receive frequent updates on human rights around the world...
