Human Rights Watch is saddened to learn that long-time board member and benefactor Dorothy Cullman passed away on April 6th.

Dorothy was deeply committed to the human rights cause and to Human Rights Watch. When she joined our board in 1989 Dorothy had the vision to see that our small organization could grow to become a leading force for defending human rights globally. She became a tireless advocate for Human Rights Watch, making substantial investments in our organization to help us undertake new work. And she helped to recruit some of our most important, long-standing supporters and board members.

During her tenure Dorothy was especially concerned about the plight of the human rights defenders we honor each year. Her passion for people who put their lives at risk to defend the rights of others never wavered. She became an emeritus member of our board in 2007. We will miss her deeply and remain grateful for her commitment to our cause.
