Matthew Reysio-Cruz
Researcher, Environment and Human Rights
Matthew Reysio-Cruz is a researcher in the Environment and Human Rights Division, where he investigates the human rights impact of fossil fuel operations. He was previously the Division's 2023-2024 Finberg Fellow, where he researched Indigenous peoples' land rights in Malaysia and conducted advocacy on anti-deforestation legislation in Brussels. Prior to working at Human Rights Watch, Matthew was an investigative journalist in Manila for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the country’s top newspaper. While there, he reported on social and economic injustices, education, and former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs. He holds a Master’s in International Affairs and a Master’s in Investigative Journalism from Columbia University.
