Maham Javaid is the 2019-2020 Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg Fellow investigating migrant workers’ rights in Qatar under the Middle East and North Africa Division.
Maham has worked as a digital and print journalist in Pakistan for the last decade, covering political and social justice beats including press freedom, women’s rights, health, and the persecution of religious, ethnic, & sexual minorities. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Maham was the editor of Soch Writing, a digital media platform in Pakistan. She holds a M.A. in Near Eastern Studies from New York University, and an undergraduate degree from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, where she later taught Media Writing for two years. Maham is fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi and spoken Hindi.
