Gina Maya

Human Rights Activist

Gina was born in Mexico City but spent her early childhood in Israel. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA and then to Oak Ridge, TN, when Gina was a teen. Gina attended Indiana University and earned a law degree at Columbia Law School. She worked at the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and then at JP Morgan Securities, Inc. Gina took a pause in her career to raise three children but continued to be actively involved in various organizations and local boards in the community.

In January 2016, Gina Maya joined Human Rights Watch as the director of the newly opened Silicon Valley office. Gina's leadership was instrumental in building the strong engagement and support of the local community for the work of Human Rights Watch. She, with the help of a vibrant local community of volunteers, led the rapid growth of the office into one of the largest fundraising centers for the organization. She has recently rejoined the Executive Committee of the Silicon Valley Committee and has had the privilege of traveling to various locales with Human Rights Watch. Gina also serves on the board of The Fuller Project and continues to volunteer locally.
