Anna Bacciarelli
Anna is a Senior Researcher in the Technology, Rights and Investigations Division. Before joining Human Rights Watch, Anna was Technology Program Manager at Open Society Foundations, where she led global grants and strategy on artificial intelligence (AI), equity and tech accountability. Previously, Anna initiated Amnesty International’s global program on AI and algorithmic accountability. As AI, Big Data and Human Rights Researcher, Anna led on research, policy development and global advocacy on algorithms, automation and biometrics for Amnesty, including evidence and analysis that led to the organisation calling for a ban on facial recognition surveillance. Anna co-founded and co-leads REAL ML, a network that supports and progresses interdisciplinary research around tech accountability. Anna also has a decade’s experience managing large digital development projects and public-facing campaigns for UK NGOs Amnesty UK and Mind. Anna is based in London.
