Poverty and Human Rights

  • People living in poverty around the world are often marginalized and face various forms of discrimination simply for being poor. Human Rights Watch’s research on poverty exposes governments for failing to meet the basic needs of the poor in areas such as health, education, and access to clean water; how the poor are vulnerable to exploitation because of their economic status; and how extreme forms of economic inequality are created and perpetuated by corruption and mismanagement of public resources.
