Remembering Rwanda: The 25th Anniversary of the Genocide
Soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Front rebel group inspect the wreckage of the plane shot down on April 6, 1994, killing Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana and Burundian President Cyprien Ntaryamira. The attack on the plane sparked the genocide in Rwanda in which more than half a million people were killed in just three months. © 1994 Corinne Dufka

A crowd of mostly Tutsi civilians, seeking protection against Hutu militiamen, sit in the Sainte Famille Catholic church in the then-government controlled part of Kigali, listening to a member of the security services address them. Over several months, many people were taken from Sainte Famille church and killed by Hutu militiamen, who maintained checkpoints around the church during the genocide. © 1994 Corinne Dufka

Thousands of mostly Hutu refugees fled across the border to Congo (then Zaire) in the face of the advancing Rwandan Patriotic Front, in the last days of the genocide. Among them were Rwandan soldiers and militiamen who had taken part in the genocide. © 1994 Corinne Dufka
