Angelica Sedgwick Oun

Senior Researcher, Immigrant Rights

Angelica Sedgwick Oun is the Senior Researcher on Immigrant Rights for the United States Program. Her work focuses on exposing human rights violations against immigrant communities in the United States.  

Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Angelica was an attorney for several years at University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law’s Immigration Clinic where she provided direct legal representation to immigrants before EOIR, USCIS and in state court proceedings. Angelica worked closely with pediatricians, psychologists, and social workers to provide holistic, trauma-informed services to immigrant children and their families seen at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) and Altamed clinics through the medical-legal partnership “La Linterna.”  

Angelica started her legal career at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) first as a Berkeley Law fellow focused on naturalization for foster youth, then as a Los Angeles Justice Fund (LAJF) attorney focused on removal defense and asylum.  

Angelica holds a JD and a Public Interest and Social Justice Certificate from UC Berkeley School of Law, as well as a BA in English Literature with a minor in Spanish from Barnard College of Columbia University. Angelica is a member of the California state bar.
