Introduction:
At least 370 Libyans have been reported missing in the eastern part of the country since mid-February 2011, some of them known or suspected to be in Libyan government custody.  Human Rights Watch documented 72 cases in the east of people who are missing or were apparently disappeared by government forces. The Libyan Red Crescent Society in Benghazi has recorded 370 missing person cases from Benghazi and Baida.  Most of those reported missing to Human Rights Watch are men who apparently fought with rebels against the government. Others are clearly civilians, including at least four doctors, three journalists, and people caught in areas where fighting took place.
