  • Zambia: Civil Society Concerned over Possible Visit by President Omar al-Bashir
    African civil society organizations and international organizations with a presence in Africa are seriously concerned over reports of a possible visit to Zambia by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir—sought by the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes committed in Darfur—to attend the Special Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region to be held on December 15 in Lusaka.

  • Letter to African States, European States, Canada, and the US on Cooperation with the Sierra Leone Special Court
    Human Rights Watch writes to the foreign and justice ministers of a number of African states and those of states that played a leading role in creating the Sierra Leone Special Court, stressing the importance of cooperation with the court. In particular, it is crucial that any country to which someone indicted by the Special Court has fled return that indictee to Sierra Leone. The perpetrators of truly horrific crimes should not be permitted to escape justice by fleeing from the state where the crime occurred.
