I have been photographing dumping sites all over the world. This is my most favorite.

海を見たことがないというビルマ人の友人を海岸につれてきたら、牛と遭遇しました。
We encountered bulls when I took a Burmese friend who had never seen the ocean.

北から南へビルマを貫くイラワジ河。 朝もやの中、小舟が見 え まし た 。
The Irrawaddy River, which runs from north to south in Burma... I saw a small boat in the morning mist.

Yuzo Uda / 宇田有三
1963年生まれ。フォトジャーナリスト。ボストンにて写真を学んだ後、中米の紛争地エルサルバドルを皮切りに軍事政権下でたくましく生きる人びとの写真を撮り続ける。ビルマ取材歴18年。著書に、「閉ざされた国ビルマ」など。Human Rights Watch 東京事務所との協力多数。
Photo journalist Yuzo Uda was born in 1963. After studying photography in Boston, Uda went to El-Salvador during its civil war. Ever since, he has continued to capture people's vibrant lives under oppression. Uda also has 18-years experience of reporting in Burma.
