Argentina faces long-standing human rights problems that include police abuse, poor prison conditions, endemic violence against women, difficulty accessing reproductive services, and obstacles that keep indigenous people from enjoying rights afforded to them by Argentine and international law. No one has been held accountable for the 1994 AMIA bombing. Argentina continues to make progress protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights and prosecuting officials for abuses committed during the country’s “Dirty War” (1976-1983), although trials have been subject to worrying delays.
