UN Security Council: Impose Arms Embargo on Myanmar

It’s been three years since Myanmar’s military staged a coup on February 1, 2021.  

Since then, junta security forces have committed numerous abuses against civilians, many of which amount to crimes against humanity and war crimes.  

Opposition and ethnic armed groups are fighting against the military.   

Security forces have responded with increased airstrikes that indiscriminately harm civilians.  

United Nations member states should urge the UN Security Council to impose an arms embargo on Myanmar.  

Governments in the region should also urge Myanmar’s junta to end its abuses and to remove restrictions on humanitarian assistance.
