Venezuela: Video Footage Exposes Brutality of Repression
The scale and brutality of violent repression by Venezuelan security forces is evident in video footage shot in recent months. Since early April, tens of thousands of Venezuelans have taken to the streets to protest against Venezuela’s increasingly authoritarian government. The government has responded with a brutal crackdown on dissent. Security forces have shot demonstrators at point blank range, runover demonstrators with an armored vehicle, brutally beaten people who offered no resistance, arbitrarily arrested hundreds of demonstrators, bystanders, and critics and prosecuted them in military courts, and broken into homes.
