Jane Buchanan is Deputy Director for Disability Rights at Human Rights Watch. Within her global work on disability rights, her areas of focus include children with disabilities, institutionalization of children and adults with disabilities, accessibility, and access to quality, inclusive education. Previously, Jane led numerous research and advocacy projects on human rights issues in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union, and helped to spearhead Human Rights Watch’s work on mega sporting events and child labor in tobacco farming. Her writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Moscow Times, and other publications. Before joining Human Rights Watch, Jane served as the executive director of the Russian Justice Initiative in Moscow. She holds a master's degree in international affairs and economics from Johns Hopkins University and graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College
