The Haitian Reality

The Committee to Protect Journalists and the the Americas Watch mission to Haiti from August 12-15,1984 to investigate a recent crackdown on the press. This 12-page documents the ways in which, in both law and practice, Haitian journalists are routinelly prohibited from criticizing their country's "institutions." Thus, the newspapers and radio stations that criticize the most durable Haitian institutions of all- poverty and inequality- are the most vulnerable to goverment oppression.
