تعاني فنزويلا من أزمة إنسانية عميقة. هناك نقص في عدد من الأدوية والإمدادات الطبية، يصعّب كثيرا على الفنزويليين الحصول على الرعاية الطبية الضرورية. كما أن النقص في عدد من المواد الغذائية وسلع أخرى يصعّب على الكثيرين الحصول على الغذاء المناسب وتغطية الاحتياجات الأساسية لعائلاتهم.
ردت الحكومة الفنزويلية حتى الآن بشكل قاصر للغاية. تنكر السلطات وجود أزمة؛ إذ لم تضع أو تنفذ سياسات فعالة لتخفيف الأزمة، ولم تبذل إلا جهودا محدودة للحصول على المساعدات الإنسانية الدولية القادرة على دعم جهودها.
