Kids in Greece are Depending on Us
UPDATE 12/09/2020: After months of your participation in our campaign, Greece ended "protective" child detention! In November, Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi announced that the Greek government is ending the long-standing practice of detaining unaccompanied migrant children in jail cells and on December 9 parliament passed a law fulfilling this commitment. We'd like to thank YOU for your part in this huge victory for children's rights.
Now, Greece must act quickly to provide kids with safe, child-friendly housing with the freedom to learn, play, and thrive, and the EU needs to do its part to support unaccompanied children. Follow our continued work here.
Move migrant children at risk of COVID-19 in detention to child-friendly housing.
Kids should be in safe, child-friendly housing with the freedom to learn, play and thrive. Yet, hundreds of migrant children in Greece without a parent or relative are sitting behind bars in police jails and immigration detention. Their conditions create a heightened risk for contracting COVID-19.
The Greek government has the ability to move these kids into child-friendly housing where they can receive medical treatment, psychological counseling, education and legal aid.
Childhood happens only once in a lifetime – we need your help to make sure they get theirs.
Take action today and ask Greece’s Prime Minister to #FreeTheKids.
