Human Rights Council - Number of Core Human Rights Treaties Ratified

These seven treaties and their protocols are the core of the international human rights law treaty system. Human Rights Watch urges all countries to fully ratify, accept and implement these treaties, without reservations. For each country we indicate the number of those fourteen instruments it has ratified, with a link to identify which it has ratified and which it has not. The core human rights instruments are:

  • ICESCR: International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights
  • ICCPR: International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
  • ICCPR-OP1: Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (individual communications)
  • ICCPR-OP2: Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (death penalty)
  • ICERD: International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination
  • CEDAW: Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women
  • CEDAW-OP: Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (individual communications)
  • CAT: Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment
  • CAT-22: Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment—Declaration under Article 22 (individual communications)
  • CAT-OP: Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (system of visits)
  • CRC: Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • CRC-OP-AC: Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict
  • CRC-OP-SC: Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution
  • ICRMW: International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families
