Over the next few days things calmed down somewhat.  On January 7 and 8 the Kenyan Red Cross began distributing food to those displaced by the violence.  In the slums of Nairobi shops had been closed for a week and people were extremely hungry.  The distribution ended in another riot and many went away empty handed.
