VIII. Acknowledgements

This report was written by Carina Tertsakian, researcher in the Africa Division of Human Rights Watch.  It was edited by Sonya Maldar, researcher, Michael Clough, advocacy director, and Georgette Gagnon, deputy director, all in the Africa Division; Wilder Tayler, Legal and Policy director; and Iain Levine, Program director.

The information in this report is based primarily on field research carried out in Plateau and Kano states in July 2004, and in Jos and other parts of Plateau State between 2001 and 2003.   We wish to thank the many men and women who testified to us about their experiences of events in Plateau and Kano states.  Their names are not mentioned in this report for their own security.

We especially wish to thank Aliyu Tukur and Imran Abdulrahman, of the Centre for Peace Initiative and Development (CEPID) for their contributions to the research and the analysis, and for their assistance in facilitating our work in Plateau State.  We also thank Joseph Sangosanya, of the Christian Foundation for Social Justice and Equity (CFSJE), Nuhu Muazu, of the Plateau State branch of Community Action for Popular Participation (CAPP), Steve Aluko, of the Plateau State branch of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO); Naseer Kura, formerly of the CLO in Kano; and Damian Ugwu of the CLO in Lagos.

Human Rights Watch wishes to thank the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for funding its work on Nigeria.
