The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has published a new report and the news is not good. "Many of the changes observed in the climate are unprecedented in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years, and some of the changes already set in motion—such as continued sea level rise—are irreversible over hundreds to thousands of years."

 

The international community needs to stand in solidarity with the people of Belarus and counter attempts by the Lukashenko regime to eviscerate civil society. It should provide unwavering, long-term support to Belarusian groups and activists, and ensure accountability for the egregious abuses by the authorities.

The Summer Olympics in Japan have ended, so it is time to look forward to the Winter Olympics, that will take place in China in February 2021, and to focus on the horrible human rights record of the host country.

It is time to ensure justice for Zimbabwe’s child brides.

And digital platforms have a responsibility to prevent online spaces from becoming a realm for state-sponsored repression against LGBT people. Corporations that produce these technologies need to engage meaningfully with LGBT people in the development of policies and features, including by employing them as engineers and in their policy teams, from design to implementation.
