In a major victory for children’s rights, the Greek government is ending the long-standing practice of detaining unaccompanied migrant children in jail cells. Human Rights Watch published its first report on the consequences of the “protective custody” regime—as this practice is called in Greece—in 2008. 

The authorities in Nepal are preventing police and prosecutors from pursuing conflict-era cases of human rights violations, undermining the rule of law and efforts for security sector reform, Human Rights Watch and Advocacy Forum said in a report released today.

The arrest and detention of presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, is a sign of the growing repression of opposition politicians ahead of Uganda’s national elections scheduled for January 2021.

Malaysia should immediately release all children held in immigration detention facilities and allow the United Nations refugee agency regular access to those facilities.

The International Federation of Association Football (Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA) should permanently ban Haitian Football Federation president Yves Jean-Bart, who is accused of raping and committing other sexual abuse of children and young women. On November 22, FIFA’s second 90-day suspension of Jean-Bart expires. 

The European Union has deepened its sanctions against Belarus over its brutal post-election repression.
