The new mass arrests of democracy supporters and activists are an attempt to dismantle Hong Kong’s civil society

The opposition in Belarus is continuing to fight on after the authorities announced dubious result numbers in favor of the incumbent. Police are using excessive force against them, and the main opposition candidate has had to flee the country.  All eyes are now on how the EU will respond.

The American Civil Liberties Union has called for the US Department of Homeland Security to be dismantled, saying the agency "isn’t capable of acting consistently with the Constitution".
