It has been three years today since Liu Xiaobo, China's leading democracy advocate and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, died in a Chinese prison. Yet the government in Beijing "honors" him today by crushing any hope for democracy in Hong Kong.

The narrow election win of Poland's President Andrzej Duda spells bad news for human rights in the country.

More lives in Syria will be lost now that aid access has been cut by the United Nations Security Council.

More reports have emerged of children who did not receive any formal education from the almost 190 countries that ordered school closures in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The staggering scale of how many millions of students have been affected during lockdowns in recent months has now become clearer.

Several Lebanese and international organizations have announced the formation of a “Coalition to Defend Freedom of Expression in Lebanon” to oppose authorities’ attempts to stifle free speech.

The authorities in Pakistan should immediately drop politically motivated charges and release Mir Shakilur Rehman, an editor with Pakistan’s largest media group. They should also stop harassing Rehman’s family members.

And finally, worldwide protests have made abundantly clear the need and the desire for human rights to prevail. Do you want to help us?  If so, join our global event on July 23, and spread the word!
