More than a dozen Bidun activists detained in Kuwait since July 2019 began a hunger strike on August 22 to protest human rights violations against themselves and the Bidun community.

International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent says thousands have gone missing in South Sudan due to the ongoing conflict.

More nations are signing on to the ban killer robots, and more NGOs are joining the campaign for this ban. These are indicators that there soon will be a treaty to ban these weapons.

Lead contamination is a public health concern in Zambia. However, many children who were affected by lead from mining areas have still not received the care they urgently require. 

A leading Hong Kong pro-democracy activist, Joshua Wong, has been arrested. Wong was the face of the 2014 movement, and had predicted a crackdown on leading voices during a media interview.

Detained journalist Erick Kabendera's health has reportedly deteriorated. He was detained on trumped up charges by the government, one among the rising number of detentions by authorities aimed to muzzle free press in Tanzania.
