This week marks six years since the start of the war in Syria, with scores killed and displaced.
This week, New jersey passed a bill banning marriage under the age of 18, without exception. The law is the first of its kind in the United States and, if signed by the Governor, would help improve the lives of many children in the state. A similar bill is making its way through New York's legislature. Help us make it law.
Millions of children in Indonesia start smoking each year. Thousands also work in hazardous conditions on tobacco fields, some starting at the age of 8-years-old. It's troubling that the Indonesian government would consider a bill that would gut, rather than increase, health regulations in the country.
As fighting continues in the western part of Mosul between Iraqi forces and the Islamic State (ISIS), reports from the battlefield indicate that use of indiscriminate weapons is posing a severe threat to civilians in the area. While ISIS poses horrific threats to civilians, the Iraqi military should not be fighting them with dangerous and illegal methods.
From earlier today: Killings by Ugandan military and police in western Uganda last November warrant an independent, impartial fact-finding mission with international expertise, HRW said today. On the bloodiest day, scores of people, including children, were killed during a military assault on the palace compound of a local cultural institution.
