Areas of special initiative include academic freedom, business and human rights, free expression, prisons, and human rights in the United States. Current campaigns include the Campaign for an International Criminal Court and the Campaign to Ban Landmines

There are also departments devoted to advocacy, communications and press, development and special events, finance and administration, the general counsel, human resources, the HRW international film festival, publications, and the U.N. representative.
