Dear state lawmaker,

Every day, students who identify as or are perceived to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender suffer relentless harassment and physical attacks. This abuse has a devasting impact on youth—their grades drop, they may become depressed, some quit school, and a few commit suicide.

Every child deserves to be treated with respect and to be protected from violations of his or her basic human rights. All youth have the right to be free from discrimination, harassment, and violence in their schools.

I urge you to support legislation to protect students and school staff from harassment and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Sincerely,
