California Committee North Through the efforts of activists around the world, there is a growing movement that demands respect for the human rights of all people, everywhere. A part of the Human Rights Watch Council, the California Committee North engages Bay Area residents in this global struggle for human rights. The California Committee North hosts a wide range of events to educate and engage the public, including policy debates, briefings on critical human rights issues, the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, and an Annual Dinner celebration to honor extraordinary human rights activists from around the world. The committee is chaired by Orville Schell, author, journalist, and dean of the School of Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley. The Committee seeks the support and participation of individuals in the Bay Area. With your help, our aim is to broaden the constituency for human rights in the United States, strengthen the commitment of U.S. leaders to the international human rights cause, and, ultimately, protect the victims of human rights abuse and bring their abusers to justice. The Young Advocates are a group of young professionals and students dedicated to advancing the mission of HRW. They assist the San Francisco office with educational events and advocacy projects.
