August 22 after thirty days in prison and a prison hospital. On his third day of detention, on July 26, 1998, Mr. Rukiqi was beaten with rubber batons on the kidneys and spent two weeks on dialysis. He is now reportedly recovering at home.]
Destan Rukiqi, who has defended dozens of ethnic Albanian political prisoners in Kosovo in recent years, was arrested and beaten this past week. He was taken from the Lipjan prison to the Prishtina hospital on July 30, with serious injuries to his kidneys. |
