Recent Corrections

  • Correction April 8, 2022: In an earlier version, we mistakenly reported that Mohamed Ramadan and Hussein Ali Moosa were executed in July 2020. This submission has been corrected to reflect that in July 2020 the Court of Cassation upheld the convictions and death sentences of Mohamed Ramadan and Hussein Ali Moosa.

  • 3/31/2022: This version of the press release has been updated to reflect the International Organization for Migration’s response to our letter.

  • 3/21/2022: This version of the press release has been updated to include additional actions taken by the Lebanese authorities to address poverty and food insecurity.

  • An earlier version of this dispatch mischaracterized the estimated 13,000 deaths of premature babies in Afghanistan since January 2022 as being “from malnutrition and hunger-related diseases.” The number was based on an Afghan Ministry of Health official’s estimate of overall death rates of premature babies during the period. The text has been edited to clarify the official’s estimates.

  • The news release misstated the sentence for  Hin Chhan. The court sentenced him to five years in prison (based on charges of “incitement” and “conspiracy”) but suspended the full sentence, meaning he will not have to serve time in prison unless the authorities allege he violated conditions for suspension of his sentence or impose new charges against him. As a result, the total number of CNRP politicians and activists convicted was 20, not 19.

  • This version of this news release was amended to clarify that  the March 3, 2022 letter was from Bakhtiyar Tuzmukhamedov, Rapporteur for Follow-up to Concluding Observations of the Committee against Torture.

  • This release has been updated to clarify that the children’s regional hospital was not damaged during the attack. Another nearby medical facility, a cardiology center, did experience significant damage during the March 3 attack.

  • The refugee figure in this article was updated to 180,000.

  • 3/7/2022: This version of the press release reflects that a Saudi criminal court sentenced Abdullah al-Huwaiti to death on March 2, 2022, under the Islamic law principle of qisas. While Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission made statements in 2020 claiming that no one in Saudi Arabia will be executed for a crime committed as a child, Saudi Arabia’s 2018 juvenile law only prohibits the use of the death penalty against child offenders convicted under ta’zir.

  • The online version of this press release has been amended to include the correct spelling of Abraham Chol Maketh’s name.
