Corrections to our publications
Human Rights Watch strives to maintain the highest level of accuracy in our reporting. This includes a commitment to correcting errors or clarifying facts that appear in our publications in a timely fashion. Corrections appear both on this dedicated webpage and at the bottom of the publication that contained the error.
We cannot reply individually to all corrections requests, but all such requests that specify the exact nature of the alleged inaccuracy and the publication (title, page number / web address and date) in which it appeared will be reviewed. If you believe you have found an inaccuracy in our materials, please contact us.
Errors contained in social media posts under Human Rights Watch and staff accounts will also be corrected in a prompt and transparent manner.

This commentary has been amended to reflect the conditions under which a person found guilty for "unlawful" protesting can face prison time.
This report has been updated to remove Belgium from the list of parliaments that have reached a determination that the crime of genocide has been committed in Xinjiang. The parliament of Belgium has not yet made a determination of genocide, but will have its first parliamentary hearing on the matter on May 4, 2021.
This press release was corrected to accurately reflect Bazarov's participation in events leading up to the assault on him.
We corrected the online version of this dispatch to include the correct distance from Yaoundé to Ngarbuh.
This dispatch incorrectly stated the number of pregnant women and girls who have tested positive to Covid-19 at the Port Moresby General Hospital as 40%, when it is about 40% of those who are being tested.
On March 17, the speaker of Turkey’s parliament stripped Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu of his parliamentary seat by reading out the notification of his conviction for a social media posting at the general assembly of the parliament. Gergerlioğlu has stated that he will not leave the parliament building until the Constitutional Court issues a decision on his case.
Clarification: The quote attributed to UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Protection Gillian Triggs in a November 2020 UNHCR news release was an appeal to all states, and should not be construed as an appeal to any particular country.
Correction 3/10/2021: This news release was updated to reflect that the online vaccine registration systems can also accept foreign nationals with passport numbers or a refugee document number. The registration website is inaccessible outside Egypt. Human Rights Watch confirmed the information with two Cairo residents.
The report incorrectly stated that the US has expelled "more than 400,000 migrants" since March 2020. It was corrected to clarify that the US has expelled migrants "more than 400,000 times" since March 2020, meaning that the number of individual migrants expelled may be greater than 400,000.
The following revisions were made to this report:
the sentence "Maternal health centers in Venezuela suspended prenatal and postnatal services due to the pandemic and the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated there is an 80 percent shortage of contraceptive supplies" was removed.
the sentence ": In Venezuela, where hospitals were already in the grip of a humanitarian crisis, some maternal health centers suspended prenatal and postnatal services in 2020 due to the pandemic, and NGOs reported that pregnant women suspected of having Covid-19 were being denied prompt care" was added.
