The arrest came as teachers have been organizing a nationwide strike to demand better compensations including adjusting pay grades for teachers.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EBodaghi\u2019s relatives reported that his Saturday arrest was accompanied by beating. They also said that all his communication devices were confiscated, including his wife\u2019s phone. The Coordinating Council of Iranian Cultural Associations \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.radiofarda.com\/a\/31604815.html\u0022\u003Ereleased a statement\u003C\/a\u003E confirming the arrest and described it as \u201cviolent and insulting\u201d.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ERasoul Bodaghi was \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2012\/10\/05\/iran-free-teachers-jailed-speaking-out\u0022\u003Earrested in 2009\u003C\/a\u003E in a crackdown on teachers speaking out against the government. He was \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.frontlinedefenders.org\/en\/profile\/rasoul-bodaghi\u0022\u003Esentenced by Branch 15\u003C\/a\u003E of the Revolutionary Court to six years in prison for charges of \u201ccolliding and assembly with the intent of disrupting national security\u201d and \u201cpropaganda against the state.\u201d At the end of his sentence in 2015, Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iranhumanrights.org\/2015\/09\/rassoul-bodaghi\/\u0022\u003Esentenced him again\u003C\/a\u003E to another three years for \u201cinsulting Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader\u201d and \u201cpropaganda against the state.\u201d However, he was released in April 2016.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOn December 13, thousands of teachers \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/originals\/2021\/12\/iranian-teachers-demand-better-pay-nationwide-strikes\u0022\u003Ejoined\u003C\/a\u003E protests in dozens of cities to echo their demands for better working conditions, as well as demanding Rasoul\u2019s release.
