So it was important for me that people know we\u2019re here.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EWhile Engle, McCray, and Scott were in jail, crowds of anti-Trump and Black Lives Matters protesters marched across downtown Tulsa near the BOK Center, sometimes converging with groups of Trump supporters, leading to some heated confrontations that remained largely peaceful.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAt around 9:15 p.m., just after the Trump rally ended, police fired \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/oklahoman.com\/article\/5665089\/law-enforcement-in-tulsa-used-pepper-balls-to-disperse-a-crowd-after-president-trumps-rally-in-tulsa\u0022\u003Epepper balls\u003C\/a\u003E at crowds near the BOK Center blocking the streets, leading many of the protesters to disperse.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EMeanwhile, in Greenwood, about one mile away from the BOK Center, crowds of people started dancing in the streets at a block party.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIt was a continued celebration of Juneteenth, Greenwood, Tulsa, and its vibrant Black community. Over the weekend, much of the world\u2019s attention was focused on Tulsa and the Trump rally, but the story of Tulsa\u2019s 1921 Race Massacre needs to be told. It\u2019s well past time the calls to action from Greenwood leaders like Dr. Tiffany Crutcher, Greg Robinson, and Rev. Robert Turner are heeded. \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2020\/05\/29\/us-provide-reparations-1921-tulsa-race-massacre\u0022\u003EReparations are due to survivors and descendants\u003C\/a\u003E of the massacre and changes are needed to \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2020\/06\/02\/us-address-structural-racism-underlying-protests\u0022\u003Eaddress structural racism\u003C\/a\u003E and racial inequalities. This includes \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2020\/06\/09\/us-reject-8cantwait-policing-program\u0022\u003Ediverting resources spent\u003C\/a\u003E on using the police to solve many societal problems, like homelessness, poverty, problematic drug use, and mental health issues, into appropriate services to address these issues outside a policing context.
