The French journalist has extensively covered Congo\u2019s political crisis in recent months and recently authored a detailed \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/webdoc.rfi.fr\/rdc-kasai-violences-crimes-kamuina-nsapu\/\u0022\u003Einvestigation\u003C\/a\u003E into the violence in Congo\u2019s central \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2017\/06\/23\/dr-congo-un-experts-investigate-kasai-region-violence\u0022\u003EKasai region\u003C\/a\u003E. The non-renewal of Rolley\u2019s accreditation is yet another indication that Congolese authorities want to hide the truth about massacres and other abuses in the Kasais.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EMeanwhile, the signal for RFI has been blocked in Kinshasa for over seven months, denying many Congolese access to a vital source of information. At least five media outlets close to the opposition remain barred, despite the \u201cconfidence-building measures\u201d included in the so-called \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/content\/298259\u0022\u003ENew Year\u2019s Eve agreement\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOver the last two and a half years, the government has broadened its suppression of criticism by forcing international officials and human rights monitors to leave Congo. In October 2014, the government expelled the director of the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office in Congo, Scott Campbell, after his office published a \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/NewsEvents\/Pages\/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=15169\u0022\u003Ereport\u003C\/a\u003E about summary executions and enforced disappearances during a police operation in Kinshasa. The director of the Congo Research Group, Jason Stearns, was forced to leave in April 2016, following his organization\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/congoresearchgroup.org\/rapport-qui-sont-les-tueurs-de-beni\/?lang=fr\u0022\u003Ereport\u003C\/a\u003E on massacres in the Beni region of eastern Congo. In July, the authorities forced two researchers from the international organization Global Witness to leave Congo while they were \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.globalwitness.org\/fr\/press-releases\/global-witness-employees-expelled-drc-under-false-allegations\/\u0022\u003Einvestigating\u003C\/a\u003E logging practices.
