VIII. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This report was written by Bronwen Manby, deputy director of the Africa Division of Human Rights Watch, based primarily on research carried out in Rivers and Bayelsa States in Nigeria in March 2002. It was edited by Peter Takirambudde, executive director of the Africa Division; Arvind Ganesan, director of the business and human rights program; James Ross, senior legal adviser; and Ian Gorvin, consultant to the program office. Human Rights Watch would like to thank all those who agreed to be interviewed for the report, especially those who have been victims of human rights violations, and to the individuals and organizations that facilitated our research, especially Environmental Rights Action. Production and coordination assistance was provided in Human Rights Watch by Jeff Scott, associate in the Africa Division, Patrick Minges, publications director, and Veronica Matushaj, manager of creative services. Human Rights Watch wishes to thank Stichting Doen! and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for funding its work on the Niger Delta.
